Sport as Part of Student life
Sport for Every Student. Excellence for Every Athlete.
Sport at ISZN is built on two core principles: providing every student with an outstanding physical education experience, while creating exceptional pathways for athletes who aspire to reach the highest levels of performance. Through expert teaching, specialist coaching, club partnerships, competition and international opportunities, every student is encouraged to find their place, challenge themselves and achieve their potential.
Sport at Every Stage
Early Years
From Pre-K onwards, students benefit from two specialist Physical Education lessons each week, delivered by our dedicated sports teachers.
Through carefully planned, play-based learning, children develop fundamental movement skills, physical confidence and coordination, while also nurturing teamwork, resilience and positive social interactions in a supportive and engaging environment.
Physical activity extends well beyond the curriculum. Our youngest learners are encouraged to embrace new challenges through a wide range of sporting experiences, including participation in the ZKB Kids Run, where they proudly complete an 800m walk or run. Alongside this, our annual calendar features a variety of age-appropriate sporting events and active experiences, fostering a lifelong appreciation for health, wellbeing and an active lifestyle.
Primary
Our vibrant Primary sports programme provides a broad and balanced Physical Education curriculum, developing fundamental movement skills, confidence and teamwork while laying the foundations for lifelong participation in sport and future athletic success.
Learning extends far beyond the curriculum through our extensive Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programme, giving every student the opportunity to explore new sports, refine their abilities and represent the school in competition.
Throughout the year, students compete in the Swiss Group of International Schools (SGIS) fixtures and tournaments across sports including football, basketball, badminton and cross country, with seasonal opportunities such as skiing in the winter and athletics during the summer. Whether participating for enjoyment or striving for competitive success, every child is encouraged to challenge themselves, embrace teamwork and develop a lifelong passion for sport.
Lower Secondary
Our Middle Years sports programme combines outstanding Physical Education with expert coaching to help students develop advanced skills, tactical understanding and a lifelong appreciation for health and physical activity.
As students grow, they are encouraged to challenge themselves, take on leadership opportunities and pursue excellence both individually and as part of a team.
Supported by a year-round calendar of scholastic competition, students have regular opportunities to represent the school across a wide range of sports. Alongside participation in the Swiss Group of International Schools (SGIS) programme, selected teams also compete internationally, providing students with the opportunity to experience higher levels of competition, broaden their horizons and create lasting sporting memories.
Upper Secondary
Our Varsity sports programme provides student-athletes with the opportunity to specialise in their chosen sports through outstanding coaching, high-performance training and a comprehensive programme of school competition.
Students are challenged to refine their technical abilities, develop leadership qualities and perform at their highest level while balancing the demands of academic life.
Representing ISZN is a source of great pride, with teams competing throughout the year in local, national and international competitions. Our commitment to excellence has seen ISZN crowned Swiss champions in both basketball and cross country, reflecting the strength of our coaching, the dedication of our students and the culture of high performance that defines our athletics programme.
