#ISZNInsights | A-Levels and Swiss University Admission: What Parents Need to Know 🎓
Can students with A-Levels apply to Swiss universities such as ETH Zurich or the University of Zurich?
Yes. But families need to understand the subject combinations, grade expectations, and recognition guidelines that make this pathway possible.
In our latest blog, Sandra Price, Director of Admissions at ISZN, explains how A-Levels are recognised in Switzerland and what families should consider when planning university pathways.

#ISZNNews | ISZN Students Take Action During Sustainability Week 🌱
How can small everyday actions make a real difference? During Sustainability Week, ISZN students explored exactly that.
From creative bin decorating in Primary to sustainability challenges and student leadership in Secondary, the week encouraged students to reflect on their habits and take practical steps towards reducing, reusing, and recycling.
A highlight was hearing from guest speaker Stephanie Nicol, who shared insights from her work with Save the Children and global organisations addressing today’s biggest challenges.

#ISZNNews | ISZN Students Explore the Frontiers of Particle Physics at CERN 🔬
Last week, our Grade 11 and 12 Physics students visited CERN in Geneva, one of the world’s leading centres for particle physics.
From the CERN Control Room to the neutrino platform, students experienced how the concepts they study in class connect to real scientific discovery. A highlight of the visit was meeting Dr. Simon Hopkins, who shared how CERN’s powerful electromagnets guide particles through the facility’s 27-kilometre accelerator.

#ISZNNews 🔬 Exploring Science in Action at Technorama!
Recently, our Grade 4 and 5 students enjoyed an exciting and hands-on learning experience at @swisssciencecentertechnorama.
During a special workshop on changing states, students explored how solids can transform into liquids – and put theory into practice by making their own ice cream! 🍦 Through investigation and experimentation, they deepened their understanding of scientific concepts in a fun and memorable way.
Beyond the workshop, students had time to explore Technorama’s interactive exhibits, challenging their thinking, problem-solving skills, and curiosity. From building structures to experimenting with materials, the day was filled with discovery and collaboration.
A wonderful example of learning beyond the classroom!

#ISZNNews 🔬 Crime Scene at UZH: ISZN Students Solve the Mystery
Grade 11 and 12 students stepped into the world of forensic science at the UZH ETH Science Learning Centre, becoming detectives for the day to solve a “crime” that had taken place at school.
The twist? One of four teacher suspects had left their DNA at the scene.
Students explored the structure of DNA and discovered how real crime laboratories use PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) and gel electrophoresis to analyse genetic material. After mastering precision pipetting with Gilson pipettes, they examined five DNA samples, amplifying them through PCR and separating fragments using agarose gel electrophoresis.
With intense focus, they compared banding patterns, debated their findings, and carefully built their case. By the end of the session, the culprit was revealed.
An exciting hands-on experience that brought advanced scientific techniques to life and showed how classroom learning connects directly to real-world applications.
