Pre-K to Grade 2 | Weeks 1 to 2 | 22 June to 3 July

What an amazing first two weeks of ISZN Summer Camp!

Our first theme, Up, Up and Away: An Exploration of Flight, has now come to an end. Our youngest campers in Pre-K to Grade 2 became scientists, engineers, designers, and explorers as they discovered how things fly through hands-on challenges, creative projects, and real-world experiences.

Blast Off!

Campers launched exploding water bottle rockets using a 2:1 ratio of water to vinegar and one tablespoon of baking powder. After a countdown, it was WHOOOOSHHH! as the rockets shot skyward, leaving everyone eager to try again.

Sonic Jet Design Challenge

Working in teams of four, campers became aerospace engineers. They sketched their own jet designs, chose their favourite features from everyone’s ideas, gathered upcycled materials, built their aircraft together, and decorated their creations with paint and craft materials.

The finished jets even had fantastic names like Voldemort and Gloofey! This challenge encouraged teamwork, creativity, communication, and problem-solving.

Rocket Races

Using recycled materials, campers designed and built their own rocket ships before racing them down a rope line. The surprise winner? The winged rocket, which zipped to the finish line the fastest!

Exploring the Moon

Our space explorers created textured Moon surfaces using salt dough and marbles to make realistic craters. They also designed colourful rocket ships and sculpted their own Moon rocket masterpieces.

Taking Flight

Campers experimented with helium balloons and tested different paper airplane designs to see which flew the best, exploring the science behind lift, balance, and flight.

Field Trip Adventures

We rounded out our first theme with exciting visits to Observation Deck B at Zurich Airport, where campers watched aircraft take off and land, and the Aviation Museum at the Air Force Center, where they explored the history of aviation and discovered incredible aircraft up close.

Week in Review

These first two weeks were filled with curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning. From explosive rocket launches to imaginative engineering challenges, campers embraced every opportunity to ask questions, test ideas, and discover the exciting world of flight.

We cannot wait to see what adventures await us next as ISZN Summer Camp continues through the summer. Over the coming weeks, campers will travel from the world of flight into dragons and dinosaurs, forest animals, life under the sea, and a final week full of movement, teamwork, and ball games.
