Primary Spelling Bee Week Creates a Buzz at ISZN
Authored by Clare Ward
Recently, students from Kiga 2 to Grade 5 took part in a range of exciting spelling activities, which culminated in a special Spelling Bee Assembly at the end of the week.
Building Confidence with Spelling and Phonics
Throughout the week, children explored spelling rules, practised phonics strategies, investigated rhyming words, and learned how to break down unfamiliar words. Some classes also searched for and practised their own spelling words at home, helping to build confidence and independence with spelling.
In class-based team activities, students worked together to earn points for correct spellings, teamwork, and even self-correcting mistakes. It was fantastic to see everyone putting their hard work and weekly spelling practice into action. Most importantly, every child was included and able to feel successful with spelling in different ways.
A Memorable Spelling Bee Assembly
During the assembly, teachers competed in a fun spelling challenge using buzzers, much to the delight of the students. One of the highlights was when Grade 5 student Shashwat bravely took on one of the teachers in a spelling battle and won. Well done, Shashwat!
To celebrate the week, every child received a special bee sticker, and a display of the children’s spelling work will be showcased in one of the primary corridors.
Well done to all students and staff for making our Spelling Bee such a fun and memorable success.
