Our first-ever Step Up Day was a huge success—filled with excitement, creativity, and connection—as our Grade 5 students got a hands-on glimpse into life in Grade 6.

To ease the transition, reduce anxiety, and build early relationships, students joined their future peers in engaging English and Science lessons. In English, imaginations took flight as students wrote their own stories using creative prompts. In Science, flight was the theme, as students explored design and aerodynamics by building and testing paper airplanes. They also worked on their scientific inquiry skills, learning how to formulate a hypothesis and understand the difference between independent and dependent variables.

Beyond the classroom, students participated in Talk and Connect activities to break the ice and build friendships. The much-anticipated Truth or Tale gave Grade 6 students a chance to share what secondary school is really like—clearing up nerves and sparking plenty of laughs.

The day ended with reflection, as Grade 5s captured their “Wishes and Wonders”—hopes, dreams, and curious questions about the year ahead.

The smiles, conversations, and creative energy captured in the images say it all—Step Up Day isn’t just a transition program; it’s a powerful step toward confidence, connection, and community.
